Florence Barry Scott Scholarship

This scholarship was a vision created by Mary W. Stafford, ACSR, CISR, CPIW, DAE and established by Louisville Association of Insurance Professionals in 2004. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior. It was named after the first President of the Louisville Association of Insurance Professionals. Applications are sent to schools in the Louisville area.

Applicants must complete it, and return it along, with three recommendations, a copy of their transcript, and a 500 word essay outlining their chosen path and goals. The money can be used by the winner as they need it for the purchase of books, dorm room necessities, payment of fees, etc. This year the award is being increased to $500.

Literacy Program
Our major platform, in conjunction with education, is our Literacy Program. Each year, in October, we hold a silent auction, with monies raised being earmarked for the Literacy Program. The money is used to purchase both new and “gently used” books, appropriate for ages Kindergarten thru 5th Grade. We also collect books as part of our May Night. All donations have been going to a local elementary school where many of the students come from economically deprived families.

The program is working; we have had feedback that reading and testing scores have improved. Prior to school starting, we also collect school supplies so children are able to begin the year with all necessary items that are brand new. At Christmas, we also collect clothing items such as hats, gloves, socks & underwear. All items are greatly appreciated. In addition, this year we have begun collecting school supplies and books at our monthly meetings. The response has been wonderful.
